The department of Medical Oncology in VIMS & RC has a dedicated and compassionate team of super-specialists who practice evidence based medicine and provides medical expertise for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of solid and haematological malignancies in children and adults. From its inception in 2007 as a separate subspeciality at the institute, the Department of Medical Oncology has been involved in patient care services in almost all divisions of oncology including Breast, Gastrointestinal, Head & neck, Lung, Bone, Soft tissue sarcomas, Gynaec-oncology, Uro-oncology, Leukemia, Lymphoma and Pediatric tumours.

Vydehi Cancer Centre is one of the first dedicated centers in India to commission IGRT (Image guided radiation therapy) with respiratory gating apart from having other radiation equipments like High Dose Rate Brachytherapy (HDR). It is a dedicated cancer center in East Bangalore catering to patients from all over India and the world. Vydehi Cancer Centre is one of the largest cancer teaching centers in Karnataka. It is also one of the first cancer center to be recognized by the government of Karnataka for its cancer welfare schemes under private establishments. In a short span of time since its inception in 2007 with the first IGRT machine in South East Asia, it has served large number of cancer patients. The centre caters to 100 - 150 cancer patients on daily basis with dedicated treatment programs for various malignancies affecting all parts of the body. With its dedicated group of Oncologists, it is laying the path for prevention, early detection, treatment and cure of cancer through its advanced infrastructure.
