Soya bean also known as Soybean is from the legume family. It is the seed of a plant called Glycine Max and is the richest plant source of protein. They are a good source of protein and fiber. Soybean contains a lot of fats. Most of the fat is unsaturated and nutritious. As soybeans mature, they ripen into hard, dry beans and they are mostly yellow in colour. They are processed to soya products such as Soy milk, Soy flour, Margarine, Soy ice-cream, Soy cheese, Soy yogurt, etc. Soybean oil is the only vegetable oil that contains all eight essential amino acids which are Valine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Phenylalanine, Threonine, Tryptophan, Methionine and Lysine. Soybean oil can be used in cooking. Soybean contains high level of nutrients such as Protein, Calcium, Vitamin K, Iron, Fiber, Copper, Potassium, Vitamin B, Phosphorus, Manganese, Magnesium and Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acid is an essential nutrient which helps to reduce risk of heart disease and cancer. Soybean contains a lot of Calcium and Vitamin K which is a much needed nutrient to keep the bones strong and healthy. It helps to improve the body energy and intelligence and also strengthens the human organs, tissues and the skin and to prevent cancer. It’s also recognized as an oilseed crop used in the preparation of human food. Soya beans/ Soybean could be used in the preparation of so many food items such as; Soy milk, Infant formula, Soybean meal, Soy sauce, Tofu, Miso and other food types. Soybean oil is used as a vegetable oil in cooking various types of food e.g. soups, sauces and stews. Soymilk can be found in powder form or concentrated liquid. Soybean helps to keep one healthy as it is a good source of protein.

Palm kernel is the edible seed of the palm tree. The palm kernel is an oil plant that is used in the production of Palm oil, Palm kernel oil and Palm kernel cake. Just as the name implies, Palm kernel oil is the oil extracted from the kernel of palm fruit while Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil which is used as a raw material in both food and non-food industries. Palm Kernel oil and Palm oil are both gotten from the palm fruit but have differences. Palm oil is gotten from the fleshy portion of the palm fruit (The Mesocarp) while Palm kernel oil is gotten from the seed (kernel) of the fruit. After extracting the palm oil from the Mesocarp of the palm fruit, we then have a black hard kernel. Palm kernel oil is extracted from this kernel and has a black colour with a nice taste. Palm oil is reddish in colour due to its high amount of Beta-carotene. It is used for Cooking, Making soaps, Detergents, Shampoos and in the manufacture of food items such as; Margarine, Crackers, Baking ingredients, breakfast cereals, Instant noodles, etc. Palm kernel oil, Coconut oil and Palm oil are all categorized as vegetable oil. Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil that contains high saturated fats and doesn’t contain cholesterol. This makes it easy to flow on human blood vessels. In Africa and some other countries, it is mostly used as a cooking ingredient in the preparation of various food types. Palm kernel oil is similar to coconut oil (which is extracted from the coconut kernel) as they are highly saturated. It is more saturated than palm oil and thus is semi-solid at room temperature. It flows easier on the human arteries than palm oil because it is more saturated. Nigeria is one of the major exporters of Palm Kernel oil.

Cocoa (Also known as Theobroma Cacao) is one of the major agricultural products produced in Nigeria. It is an economic crop that grows oblong pods either alternately or asymmetrically on the cocoa tree. It is mostly grown in the raining season. The pods are hard and their shapes appear like melon or baseballs. They come in different colours such as gold, green, yellow or red and are heavy in weight. Each pod has over 30 seeds which when dried are the Cocoa beans. They become violent or reddish brown during the drying process. Cocoa butter and Cocoa Powder are the intermediate products that would emanate from cocoa liquor by hydraulic presses. The pale-yellow fat obtained by this process is called the Cocoa butter. The residue obtained thereafter is the cocoa cake, which upon grinding gives the cocoa powder.

Cashew nuts (Also known as Anacardium Occidentale) are gotten from a Cashew tree. The Cashews tree can grow as high as 14 metres (46ft). The Cashew fruit hangs like a bell on the Cashew tree. The Cashew nuts are shaped like kidney or beans and adhere at the bottom of the Cashew fruits. The cashew fruit has herbal health benefits such as; healing one from diarrhoea and fever, killing bacteria and germs, reducing the blood sugar level and stabilizing the body temperature. The Cashew nuts also contains a lot of nutritional contents. It contains protein and essential minerals such as; iron, fat, magnesium, zinc, copper, phosphorus and has no cholesterol.

Garlic (also known as Allium sativum) is a herb used in the treatment of various medical challenges. It is a specie of the lily or Allium family. Other close relatives to Garlic are Onion, Shallot, Leek and Chives. Garlic has been proved to be good for the health and in curing various health problems. It provides various nutrients and minerals such as vitamins, enzymes, amino acids, sulphur compounds and natural sugars to the body system. It is also used to make garlic powder. Garlic power which is a dehydrated and grounded garlic is commonly used as a seasoning or spice for cooking. Garlic is a rich source of sulphur. The sulphur compounds are responsible for garlics pervasive and pungent smell and are also the source of its health benefits. Garlic has a lot of health benefits but also has a side effects of causing bad breadth and eating too much of it has negative effect on the digestive system.
